What is ear stapling?
Ear stapling involves positioning a tiny surgical stainless steel staple
in the cartilage of the ear between specific pressure points to target
weight loss, stress, tension, nicotine cravings and other problems
affecting the body.
How does the staple work?
The staple works by applying continuous pressure to
those acupressure points in the ear to signal the brain that your
stomach is full or cause a strong distaste for tobacco, etc. It's all dependent
on the placement of the staple.
How long does it last?
It can last from 2 to 3 months, but is very
individualized. As long as the staple is applying adequate
pressure to the point, it is effective until your body gets accustomed to
the stimulus. We can remove and replace the staple in a slightly
different spot between the pressure points when this occurs.
Does it hurt?
It is comparable to having your ears pierced.
Some say that there's a slight burning/stinging sensation, but it
subsides very quickly. Others say it doesn't hurt at all.
Everyone responds differently to the staple.
Should a staple be placed in one ear or both?
It is believed that one ear is more effective than the other, but there
is no way to know for sure which one. We recommend staples in both
ears for the greatest results.
What is the average success rate?
For weight loss, women average 2-5 pounds a week and
men, 4-11 pounds. Those who are serious and add a healthy diet and
exercise may see much greater results.
There is an 80% success rate for smoking cessation.
Are there risks involved?
With proper care of the staple there are limited
risks involved. As with any piercing, however, there is a risk of
infection associated with it even when sterile techniques are followed.
Bacteria is almost always the cause for infection from contact during
aftercare. So follow your aftercare instructions, keep the pierced
area clean, and do not touch your staples
to prevent infection.
